The Road to the Isles encompasses some of the most iconic images of Scotland – from the Glenfinnan Viaduct and the Glenfinnan monument to the views out over the Small Isles and Skye to the spectacular sandy beaches from Traigh beach to the silver sands of Morar.

It is brimming with wildlife on land and in the sea and has a history that is close to the hearts of many Scots, with Loch Shiel being the place where Prince Charles Edward Stuart, Bonnie Prince Charlie, raised his standard at the start of the Jacobite Rising in 1745.

The road to the isles twists around many sheltered sea lochs of the area, from Loch Ailort to the fresh water Loch Morar, with the finest of heather hills, rolling landscapes and seascapes unfolding with each passing turn of the road.
And, of course, there is the famous Jacobite steam train which travels along the West Highland line between Fort William and Mallaig on its magical ‘Harry Potter’ journey in the summer months.
Truly a journey worth taking, take a voyage with our Road to the Isles map and savour this part of the West Highlands.
